The Importance of Self Esteem for Successful Weight Loss

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN LOW SELF ESTEEM & SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS: If you struggle with low self esteem or low self confidence, and are overweight, you could well be forgiven for thinking that losing weight will solve all your problems and you will feel happier about yourself and life in general... But what if I told you in actual fact, the TRUTH IS MOST LIKELY THE OTHER WAY AROUND... if you work on your self esteem, your weight loss is more likely to be successful and permanent.

10 Reasons why having Low Self Esteem could reduce your chances of successfully losing weight:
  1. Healthy self esteem enables you to believe in yourself and your ability to succeed even during plateau's
  2. Experts say that people with low self esteem tend to eat more
  3. Happy confident people tend to be naturally busier meaning more energy (calories) are burned just through everyday living, plus when you are busy and engaged in life, you tend not to think so much about food and have less time to pick or snack through boredom
  4. Low self esteem is often accompanied by a lack of motivation, lack of energy and a lack of desire to do any exercise for a number of reasons. It may be they worry how they will look, what people will think, it's too hard, or they really don't enjoy it.
  5. People with low self esteem can often be less active. The physiological make up of our bodies is such that energy creates energy, the less energy spent leads to having less energy, the more energy spent leads to having more energy
  6. People with higher self esteem tend to focus better and plan better, both essential for successful weight loss
  7. Research has proven those with higher self esteem are far more likely to succeed than people who don't
  8. People with low self esteem are less likely to have busy social lives, which means they have less going on leading potentially to loneliness and boredom, both of which factor very high on the list of why people eat more than they need
  9. People with low self esteem can easily lean toward a more negative outlook on things
    • They don't even attempt to start because they don't truly believe they will succeed
    • If they have a 'bad' day, they may feel they have proved themselves right so what's the point in trying and so give up
    • They are easily downhearted and can tend to give up if the scales don't drop when they feel they have been 'good' (but this can be for a number of reasons and doesn't necessarily mean no progress has been made)
  10. People with higher self esteem usually have a more positive outlook on things
    • They make sure they are prepared and organised before embarking on a weight loss goal, increasing their chances of success
    • They have a higher level of determination to succeed
    • If they have a 'bad' day they accept that sometimes this happens, forgive themselves and continue with their plan making any adjustments that might help prevent this happening again
    • If things don't seem to be working (ie the scales haven't moved even though they have been 'good') they look into why, ask for help or try a different approach.
So whilst it is true that weight loss can indeed greatly improve self esteem and self confidence, it is worth realising, if you do struggle with low self esteem, not only could it potentially prevent you from succeeding, but it could also result in the weight being put back on if any underlying causes have not changed.
If you think you may have a low self esteem, and have struggled to lose weight, even though you truly believe it would improve your confidence and self esteem, maybe it is worth working on your self esteem either before you embark on a weight loss goal, or at the same time.

Starting a new lifestyle is the best reason for a healthy weight loss diet. Health risks that are associated with overweight is something we all want to avoid. The signs of your health do not surface so easy with being overweight. From an emotional need for foods or compelled by an addiction to certain ones, bad eating habits can haunt you. Changing your lifestyle will improve your ability to succeed using a healthy weight loss diet.

Start a New Lifestyle
You will have to overlook your previous attempts to lose weight when you find that right diet plan. Dieting alone can make that extra weight disappear in time, but adding exercises will increase your ability to lose weight that much faster. If you are overweight you will need to begin a positive lifestyle to help lose weight. Altering your way of life can have its rewarding outcomes, when you are considering a healthy weight loss diet.
Parking your car farther away or taking the stairs when you can, will add just that much more physical activity to your day while you are trying to lose weight. Learning a new way to keep fit is a great way to start the body moving. With the body in motion, you will be able to burn calories so you can lose that extra weight. Staying active is a great way to keep your mind off food and lose weight at the same time.

Starting cardio exercises can be one of the best things you do for your health. To list the different types of cardio exercises is almost impossible, but here are some ideas you could use, swimming, running, gardening, a physical sport or just pick an active hobby you enjoy.
Stay With It
Ending your diet too soon can be unfavorable to your goals of weight loss. You do not want to fall into a trap of improvement, to frustration and then quitting before you reach your goals, just because you are not losing enough weight as quickly as you had hoped. You could be excited or discouraged using your scales while dieting. If you weigh yourself everyday in hopes of seeing another pound disappear you could be dooming yourself to failure.
It comes down to a healthy weight loss diet alone will not reduce your weight significantly. You can change your lifestyle and add some type of exercises which will help you lose those ugly pounds.
Good Luck!

Happy New Year! Time for a New You

The new year means it is time for a new you! There are 5 easy things that you can do to transform yourself this year. We will explore each of these and how you can easily incorporate these into your life.

The first step is to write down your goals. What are you looking to achieve? Do you want to lose 5kg by February or are you wanting to increase muscle mass to compete in a body building competition in April? Once you work out exactly what you want to do you will have a better idea of what steps you need to take. Be specific when you are setting goals, as this will ensure that the results you see will be exactly what you want. Also be true to yourself when setting your goals, there is no point setting a goal if it isn't EXACTLY what you want to achieve, as you will have no will-power, drive or desire to go after it. Don't set a half hearted goal and expect yourself to achieve it. Be honest with yourself and set a goal that means something to you.

Once you have your goals set out, you need to work on your diet. Depending on what your goals are, will influence your diet. Clean out the cupboards of all the rubbish and go for a big shop. The biggest hint I can give you when it comes to grocery shopping, is mainly stick to the outside of the store and buy fresh produce. Minimise products that come in packaging and buy organic where you can. To keep your metabolism firing eat six small meals per day and work on portion control. For protein and carbohydrates in main meals keep the portion size to no bigger than the palm of your hand (or size of your fist). Do not starve yourself, this is counter intuitive, you can actually eat more and lose weight if you time your meals correctly and eat fresh produce.

Once you have worked out your diet, you then need to sort out your workout routine. It is imperative that you have worked out your goals to ensure that your training will get you to achieve those goals. A mix of aerobic, strength and flexibility training will suit most people's goals. Also take into account what your interests are when working out how you will workout, as there is no point doing exercise that does not interest you as you will not stay motivated.

The fourth step, and probably most enjoyable, is to figure out your rewards! You need to figure out how you will reward yourself for achieving your goals, will you buy yourself something you have wanted for awhile, will you go on a holiday? The choice is yours. Rewards will help keep you on track when you feel like giving up, as you have something to look forward to once the goal is achieved. Don't cheat and do it anyway, even if the goal isn't achieved, stay on track and keep fighting to reach your goal, you will feel better and more accomplished if you do.

Finally, you don't have to do it alone! A trainer and support network is key and crucial to your success. When you feel off track, you need someone who can lift you up and get you back on track. When you feel de-motivated, you need someone to re-motivate you. It can be difficult to do it on your own! Getting a trainer or joining a fitness community could be the ultimate difference between your success or failure. Your goals are worth a small investment to ensure that you reach them!

Remember: before undertaking any new fitness regime that you seek advice from your GP or Medical Doctor before commencing. If you do seek out a trainer, they will be able to assist you in seeking out appropriate allied health professionals to assist you toward your goals.

Hope these tips help you transform yourself in 2014, let's make it your year!

Eating a low-calorie, low-fat diet is the best way to lose belly fat. There is not an ideal diet that works everyone and diets don't work very well for many people. Making small changes to how and what you eat each day will lead to more success, even if the weight loss takes a little longer.

Some people find the first few days of dieting to be quite difficult, so you need to create a solution to make it easier for you. As a starting point, one of the things that you can do is to make sure that your refrigerator only contains the healthy foods that you can eat and that you like. Also, avoid eating processed foods as much as possible. Eat fruits and vegetables as your main source of carbohydrates and eat moderate amounts of high quality protein at each meal.

Step 2: To lose belly fat naturally you need to exercise regularly.

There is no point in trying to do exercises that you do not like or find too difficult. Exercise is one of the best ways to lose fat but the problem many people face is that they feel they don't have the time for exercise. Not everyone may have time to get to the gym every day, but there are many things you can do at home. Your exercise routine can easily be combined with other activities you enjoy and make time for, like watching TV.

It takes time to condition your body, find the activities you enjoy and figure out what fits best into your lifestyle. Allow yourself the time to try different activities, schedules and frequencies so that you can find what will work for you in the long-term, not just a few days or weeks. A basic exercise routine should include cardio, strength training and flexibility exercises to help you burn calories, build muscle and keep your connective tissue flexible.

Step 3: You need to change your lifestyle to lose belly fat naturally.

One of the most important elements to get a flatter stomach is that it has to be become part of your lifestyle if it is ever going to work long-term. It does not mean that mean can't ever have your favourite foods. You just have to carefully plan treats into your diet. Sometimes having a small treat each day, like a piece of chocolate or a handful of chips, can keep you satisfied and helps with the healthy options the rest of the time.

The best way to lose belly fat permanently is to make your health and fitness a priority in your life, and you must enjoy it whether it's because you actually enjoy the actual exercise and healthy eating, or because you enjoy the feeling of strength or energy or confidence that it gives you.
